What to expect on first install.
We haven't paid for a code-signing certificate yet — certs cost ~$400/yr and we're spending those dollars on your beta instead. Both macOS and Windows will show a one-time warning the first time you open the app. Here's how to bypass it:
macOS — first launch
- Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Black Box.app to Applications.
- Right-click (or Control-click) Black Box.app in Applications and choose Open.
- macOS shows "App is from an unidentified developer". Click Open.
- If the dialog only has a Cancel button, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to the Black Box notice.
Windows — first launch
- Run the downloaded .exe installer.
- SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC".
- Click More info, then click Run anyway.
- The installer downloads WebView2 if your machine doesn't have it (~100 MB, one time).
- Launch Black Box from the Start menu.
Once we ship 1.0 we'll buy certs for both platforms and the warnings will go away. Thanks for trusting us through the beta.
